So far so good. :grinning: The team were great with communication and setting up the tech. Really good customer service. Call Genie is working well. Dad has a small fairly open plan flat, so the wide angle camera lens means we can chat with while he's in the kitchen, in sofa or at his dining table. The mic is very good and clear too, even when he's a fair way from the camera. Great to chat while we're both pottering about.

We had been pondering a video call system that should make use of your television for years but could not find any on the market. Finally, we found CallGenie and it works beautifully for us in the USA and Mom in Germany! It first took a while to weave it into our daily routine of long distant care, but now it is indispensable. It seems so natural for Mom that we appear on the TV just as the evening news anchor man would. With progressing dementia, we have the ability to see for ourselves how she is doing, and she seems to cherish to hear and see us.
Setting up the system really was easy, admittedly I have a technical background, but Graham of CallGenie really was on top of things once we had an issue with a Windows update. Within a day he solved the problem remotely. Our Mom's TV is a Grundig TV from 2015 and we ran a wired internet connection. We recorded a couple of commands from the TV's remote control and CallGenie took it from there.
A very valuable side effect is the following: Our mom sometimes confuses the remotes for TV and cable box
losing the HDMI connection between the two. Now it only takes one Skype call from us using CallGenie and the connection is all back to where it belongs! This indeed
saves a lot of frustration for our Mom. IN all, we would not want to miss the benefits of our video calling link.
Now I can communicate with my 81-year-old mother, who suffers from Parkinson's and struggles to use a mobile phone. I am grateful to Graham and Ian for the technical support that arrived within a few hours.
